Use case

Redact PII from CSV exports

Analytics and CRM exports are the most common way personal data leaves a company. The usual approach — ask an analyst to drop a few columns — misses the PII that ends up in free-text fields such as notes and descriptions. Redactly processes every cell instead.

Try it on the live API No signup. 2,000 characters, 20 runs per 10 minutes.
Output appears here.

What this gives you

  • Per-cell redaction: each cell is scanned independently, so a name inside a free-text note is found even when the column is called notes.
  • Structure is preserved. Headers, row order, quoting, and column count come back unchanged.
  • No row limits imposed by the API; the only practical constraint is your request size.
  • Use style=remove if you want the cell emptied instead of labelled.

Request

curl -X POST https://api.bitbanger.in/v1/redact/file \
  -H "X-API-Key: rdct_your_key_here" \
  -F "file=@customers.csv" \
  -F "style=replace" \
  --output customers_redacted.csv

Questions

Does it redact column headers?

Yes. Every cell including headers is scanned, so an email address used as a column name is also redacted.

What happens to numeric columns?

They are scanned as text, so a phone number stored as an integer is still detected and replaced with a label.
