Redact political opinions from text, JSON, and CSV
Political opinion is special-category data under GDPR and is unusually easy to leak, because it appears in ordinary sentences rather than in a field called politics.
How Redactly detects political opinions
- Detected by the model from free text.
- Covers expressed opinions, party affiliation, and activism.
- No assumption is made about jurisdiction, since the sensitivity applies broadly.
Why redact political opinions?
Political views carry legal protection in most jurisdictions and real personal risk if disclosed.
Example request
curl -X POST https://api.bitbanger.in/v1/redact \
-H "X-API-Key: rdct_your_key_here" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"text": "Volunteer noted he campaigns for the local green party.", "style": "replace"}'
Every hit in the response carries entity, text, start, and end. The offsets index into the text you sent, so you can apply the redactions to your own copy of the document. The full response schema is in the API reference.
Questions
Does Redactly redact political opinions automatically?
Yes. Send text to the API and every detected type is redacted, including political opinions. To redact only this type, pass the value special.political in the entities filter. No training or configuration is required.
What happens to political opinions after redaction?
With style set to replace, each match becomes [special.political] — the entity type in square brackets. Setting style to mask replaces every character with a block character, and remove deletes the span entirely.
